October 13, 2006 BERLIN, NH- The US Bureau of Prisons today announced that they indeed will begin construction on a new, medium security, federal prison complex located in Berlin, New Hampshire. Construction contracts will soon be awarded and ground-breaking should begin in Spring 2007. Construction is slated to last approximately 3 years, and some estimates place this project as the third largest in New Hampshire's history, only behind the Seabrook Nuclear power plant and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Once completed, it is estimated that the new Berlin, NH federal prison complex will bring approximately 250-300 full time jobs to the Berlin/Gorham NH area. The complex will house approximately 1100 inmates once fully operational.
